Acclimatising

When I first arrived I was continuously amazed about how hot it was. I would spend most of my day sitting very still next to a fan or under an air-con unit. I was a disgusting, sweaty mess.

Of course, I still sweat- sometimes a lot, but not at the frequency I did when I first arrived. Also, there doesn’t seem to be much correlation between my sweating and how comfortable I feel. I felt reassured that some people I met, who have been here for ages and some that come from countries such as Malaysia, really struggle with the hottest days.

However, it’s getting cooler, which is nice. In fact, I woke up this morning and felt a bit chilly. So, I thought I’d check the temperature. This is what I saw.

It turns out that “a bit chilly” is 20 degrees more than what people in Southampton were experiencing. I noticed that it was apparently -7 yesterday in Southampton! Maybe I should stop complaining.

I was in Hanoi a week ago, where it was 17/18. I really struggled. I have images of me returning to the UK wrapped in up like an Inuit. I’m not sure I’m going to survive.

  1. Hi Tashmead,
I can confirm that it was very very cold in Southampton last week – I can’t believe you feel like 20 ish degrees is ‘chilly’…

It’s been so lovely and interesting to read your blogposts and get an insight into what life is like in Cambodia. I’ve been really enjoying learning a bit more about the similarities and differences between the cultures in two very opposite countries.

I know you must get this a lot, but you are making us all so proud. It might just be me, but by reading about your experiences in Cambodia, it really empathises that there is so much more beyond TSTC.

Thank you for being so inspiring and also for supporting students, such as myself, even when you’re in a completely different place in the world.

I’m glad you’re having such an awesome time (I used the right your/you’re – it must be because I have such a wonderful English teacher).

I look forward to your next blogpost!

    From Ella P 🙂
